You will receive a newsletter from us each week. The weekly newsletter will outline important information, updates and events happening within our community and on campus. If you have any questions or concerns, reach out to us. We are here to help!

Clarke Love,

Athena, Justin & the RAs!

September is National Suicide Prevention Month

"September is Suicide Prevention Awareness Month — a time to raise awareness on this stigmatized, and often taboo, topic. In addition to shifting public perception, we use this month to spread hope and vital information to people affected by suicide. Our goal is ensuring that individuals, friends and families have access to the resources they need to discuss suicide prevention and to seek help." -National Alliance on Mental Health

RHA applications are DUE TONIGHT!

The Residence Hall Association (RHA) is a student umbrella organization composed of an executive board, a general body, and several Community Councils. Community Councils meet to focus on the needs of the individual residential communities. In the past, councils have advocated for an improved laundry experience, more study spaces, and access to shuttle routes. Councils also have a budget to host programs for the enjoyment and well-being of their peers. Previous programs include a Halloween-inspired day of throwing pumpkins off of Clarke tower called “ Jackbash” and “Self Care Sunday” to support the mental health of residents by inviting therapy dogs and offering self-care activities.

We are currently accepting applications for the following community council positions:

  • Council President

  • Treasurer

  • House Representative

  • Community Council Representative

Link to application for the positions above. If you would like to participate as a general body member you can also apply here. Applications are due at 11:59 on September 1st.

If you are interested or have any questions, feel free to stop to ask questions at one of our events this week!

Become a 2021 Civic Engagement Scholar

Now in its twelfth year, the Civic Engagement Scholars program, hosted by the Center for Civic Engagement & Learning (CCEL), promotes and recognizes meaningful student involvement in the community. Scholars complete at least 30 civic engagement hours in their choice of direct service, advocacy, philanthropy, political involvement, and more over the course of the academic year. They also participate in two all-Scholars trainings to enhance their understanding of Cleveland and social change in addition to completing a final reflection. Upon successful completion of the program, Scholars earn a Certificate of Distinction recognizing their commitment to community. Both undergraduate and graduate students of all years and majors are eligible to become Civic Engagement Scholars, and many students elect to participate in the program multiple years.

The Scholars enrollment form is due by 11:59 p.m. EST on Sunday, September 19. Visit the Civic Engagement Scholars website for more information.

COVID-19 Reminders & Mask Wearing

  •  ÔÇïÔÇïÔÇïÔÇïÔÇïBaseline Testing: As part of the reorientation to campus, we all must undergo 3 weeks of COVID-19 testing. If you need more information about where or when to complete your test, go here
  • Masks: Finally, thank you to everyone who is doing their part and wearing their mask indoors. It is a current COVID-19 guideline that we all must wear masks when indoors. You can expect the Residence Life staff to remind you of the mask policy when you are not compliant with it.

  • Guests: All visitors/guests must adhere to current university COVID protocols. Overnight guests must be a current CWRU student and be fully vaccinated.

These protocols are helping all of us to stay on campus and in person!

Suitemate & Roommate Agreements  - Past Due!

Thank you to those who completed your suite agreement forms! We have been reviewing them and will be sending copies to your RA.

If you have not completed it yet, you need to get with your suitemates to complete your suitemate agreement this week. Talk through how you expect to keep the space clean, guests, how to work through conflicts, and how you might communicate on a regular basis. Here is the link to required Suitemate Agreement and optional Roommate Agreement.

Room Condition Report - Due This Week!

If you haven’t completed your room condition report, do it now! Your room condition report can be completed by going to your MyHousing Page, Log In, Actions, Room Condition Report. Submit your report accurately to avoid any charges at the end of the semester or year.

Also, don’t forget that ALL University Furniture MUST remain in your room all year. You are responsible for all lost furniture!

Weekly Spotlight

Tessa Conville

Please welcome Tessa to Clarke Tower and CWRU! She moved to campus this week and is in the process of being transitioned to the Residential Community Director for Clarke Tower! In her undergraduate, she worked as a RA for several years. While obtaining her Master’s Degree in higher education and student counseling, she served as a hall director. She previously worked at Hiram College in a similar role as well. Tessa loves cats and has two of her own. Fun fact: they like being in water!

You will start to see Tessa around campus. Once she is fully transitioned, we will send out her contact information.

Know of a fellow resident, RA, or staff member in our community who we should spotlight? Should we spotlight you? Submit here!
