OPT & CPT Workshops

ISS is offering Optional Practical Training (OPT) and CPT Workshops to go over in detail the application process, student responsibilities, and other important considerations.

Being well informed before applying for either authorization is extremely important and applying early is critical!

USCIS is publishing that it takes 3-5 months to process submitted OPT applications. Plan to complete a required OPT workshop as early as possible to be best prepared. Remember, you do not need to have a job offer to apply for OPT!

You do need to have a job offer before applying for CPT authorization and you are not eligible to begin your experience until you have proper authorization in place. It can take several days to become authorized.

Virtual workshops led by an advisor have been scheduled and information about required registration, attendance, and the application process can be found on our website under the OPT and CPT sections.

What You Need to Know About Drugs and Alcohol

This short video (scroll down a bit on the website) is designed to provide an overview of drugs and alcohol to international students studying in the US. It discusses the US laws related to drugs and alcohol, how to act responsibly, consequences and how to get help if you or someone you know has an addiction. It will also provide some helpful tips on how to stay safe and warning signs if you or someone you know needs help.

Sprintax Introduction to US Taxes

The staff members in ISS are not tax experts, so the office partners with Sprintax to help students get all of the tax-related information that they need.

In this online session, Wednesday, September 21, 12:30 p.m. EDT, the Sprintax team will be providing an introduction to US taxes for new and incoming international students, scholars, and professionals.

Topics covered will include an outline of filing obligations for nonresidents, tax information around working in the USA, and other resources to help nonresidents to understand their tax obligations while in the USA.

We hope you'll consider attending so that you feel prepared for the upcoming 2022 tax filing season. At that time, ISS will notify students about Sprintax tools that are available for use.
