Explore Lake View Cemetery during the 15th annual Run Through History

Members of the Case Western Reserve University community are invited to participate in the 15th annual Run Through History at nearby Lake View Cemetery Sunday, Sep. 20. This event is a 5K run and 2-mile walk/run starting at 9 a.m. The Spartan Running Club plans to participate in the run.

Participants can set their own pace as they make their way through the historic and scenic cemetery. Among the notable figures buried at Lake View Cemetery are President James A. Garfield and industrialist John D. Rockefeller.

The race can be completed individually or as part of a team. Dogs also are welcome to join.

All participants will receive a commemorative race bib, T-shirt, and post-race refreshments.

Making Your Life Count in a Challenging World: A Fireside Chat with Jim Bildner, Class of '79 School of Law and Author of A Matter of Hope

CWRU School of Law Dean Paul Rose will host a fireside conversation with alumnus Jim Bildner, an impact investor, philanthropist, civic leader, and author of A Matter of Hope, which examines the evolving role of lawyers as leaders and problem solvers at the intersection of law, policy, business, and social impact. Drawing on his experience guiding one of the world’s largest venture philanthropy firms and teaching at Harvard Kennedy School, you will hear how Bildner navigated law, policy, business, and social impact to address pressing societal challenges.

A lifelong Northeast Ohio entrepreneur, Rayburn has built and grown companies in industrial distribution, sports and entertainment, private investment, and cannabis. In this discussion, he will share lessons on operations, leadership, business development, and scaling organizations through periods of growth and transformation.

Rayburn is the founder of Buckeye Relief, a Level 1 cannabis cultivator and processor based in Eastlake, Ohio, and owner of Amplify dispensaries across Northeast Ohio and Columbus. Prior to Buckeye Relief, he led investments through Big Game Capital, with interests including the 2016 NBA Champion Cleveland Cavaliers, minor league baseball teams, and the 10,000 Lakes Music Festival. Earlier in his career, he grew Flexalloy Inc. from a 20-person company in two cities into a 400-person business across 13 cities before selling it in 1999.

The UCLA Center for Healthcare Management Case Competition provides healthcare management graduate students an opportunity to put what they have learned into practice. Student teams (up to four members) from around the world are challenged to provide solutions and recommendations to a real-time, real-world management challenge faced by a Southern California healthcare system. Teams have 88 hours in November to complete their analyses and the top eight teams visit Los Angeles to present their ideas to healthcare leaders in January. This format enables the exchange and dissemination of ideas, as well as professional networking.

FIRST PLACE: $12,000
SECOND PLACE: $8,000
THIRD PLACE: $4,000
FOURTH PLACE: $2,000

The deadline to register for the UCLA Center for Healthcare Management Case Competition is Monday, November 9, 2026.

Applications are now open for the Fowler Center’s Business for World Benefit Clinic.

The BWB Clinic gives students the opportunity to work in teams with real companies and organizations on semester-long consulting projects focused on sustainability, social impact, and responsible business.

By participating, you can:

• Gain hands-on consulting experience
• Work directly with real clients
• Build skills in research, analysis, teamwork, and client communication
• Apply what you are learning in the classroom to meaningful business challenges
• Add substantial experiential learning experience to your resume

Applications are open now and are due by 11:59 PM on Wednesday, September 9.
