Upper-Class Halls Open During Winter Break
The Village at 115, Stephanie Tubbs Jones Hall, 1609 Hazel Apartments, and the property management apartments are only available during winter break for students who are returning for the Spring 2023 semester. Upper-class students who are leaving the university at the end of the Fall 2022 semester (due to graduation, transferring, withdrawing, co-op, study abroad, etc.) must move out by 3 p.m. on Thursday, December 22, 2022 (see "UC Students Leaving CWRU at the End of Fall Semester" section for procedures).
Winter Break Housing Sign-Up Form
The upper-class residence halls are open during winter break for students who are returning for the spring semester. However, card access for upper-class students will turn off on December 22 at 3 p.m. If you are staying on campus for any length of time during Winter Break (December 22 - January 12), you will need to log in to MyHousing and submit the winter break sign up form in order to re-activate your card access to your building. Please note that it will take approximately 30 minutes for your card access to be reactivated once you submit the form.
If your plans change during winter break, you are able to edit this form on MyHousing at any time. Students who are not returning for the Spring 2023 semester will need to move out by 3 p.m. on Thursday, December 22.
Dining and Retail Operations
The last meal at the dining commons will be on Wednesday, December 21, 2022. Fribley and Leutner dining commons will close at 2:30 p.m. The first meal after winter break will be on Sunday, January 15, 2023, with dinner at 4:30 p.m.
Hours of operation for the on-campus retail locations change during winter break. These hours will be posted on the housing website as well as the Dining Services website shortly.
Before Departing for Break
Please check your room/suite/apartment to be sure that: to be sure that:
All trash has been removed
All valuables have been taken home
Nothing is blocking the heating units
Alarms on alarm clocks have been turned off
Your bicycle is stored in your room or bike rooms, secured with a u-lock
All holiday decorations have been removed and properly stored or discarded
All refrigerators have been unplugged/cleaned out
All windows are closed and securely locked and blinds are closed
All room lights have been turned off
Please remember to take fish and other pets with you if you are leaving campus for the entire break.
On departure, your room and suite/apartment door is locked
Students in double rooms who do not have roommates must be prepared for a new roommate (i.e. one side of the room should be cleaned and ready for occupancy.
Following this checklist will help ensure the maximum safety and security for your room and property during your absence. Case Police and Security will do occasional walk throughs of each building during the break period.
Spring 2023 Room Changes
Students interested in changing rooms for the spring semester, including single apartments, will need to submit a room change request form on Campus Groups and meet with their RCD no later than 5:00 p.m. on Friday, December 9, 2022.
Upper-Class Students
Room Swap -- you and another student switch rooms
If you have a specifically identified room -- your RCD will discuss parameters for moving prior to the end of the fall semester
Wait until spring room changes begin the second week of classes
Students Leaving at End of Fall Semester
Please notify the Office of University Housing by Friday, December 16, 2022, if you are not returning to CWRU next semester, via the appropriate form found on your MyHousing portal https://my.case.edu/My/Housing/
Exit Notification Form: for students not returning to CWRU due to transfer, withdrawal or exiting international exchange students. Graduating Seniors—we will automatically update your housing status and adjust your fall checkout date to December 22 at 3 p.m.
Housing Status Change Request Form: for students taking a leave of absence or participating in an off-campus program (co-op, study abroad, internship, practicum, etc.) and will not be living in the halls during the spring semester.
Once you have completely moved out of your room and your room is cleaned, when you are ready to leave, you must check out of your room either by Appointment or Express Checkout:
By Appointment:
Sign up for checkout with your RA at least 24 hours in advance
Complete of the room condition report
Return your room key/ key card and mailbox key to a residence life staff member
Vacate your room no later than 3 p.m. on Thursday, December 22, 2022

December 9: Deadline for Greek students to complete new housing application to move into or out of the Greek houses for Spring 2023

December 16: Exit notification and status change requests for Spring 2023 are due

December 22: Halls close for Winter Break at 3 p.m. Area Offices switch to winter break hours
24 Hour Quiet Hours
24-hour quiet hours will begin on Saturday, December 10, 2022 at 8 a.m. and will continue until the halls close on Thursday, December 22, 2022. Each building staff has the option of planning a half-hour study break during the days when 24-hour quiet hours are in effect. Please contact your RCD for more information.
Routine Health/Safety Inspections & Maintenance of Student Rooms
On Thursday, December 22, at least two members of the Residence Life staff will make a routine inspection of student rooms and apartments. Please leave your room in an orderly condition to facilitate an effective and efficient room check. The staff will not disturb any of your personal belongings. In addition, rooms may be entered over break by Unversity officials for inspections or to perform maintenance tasks.
Mail Service
Mail will not be forwarded during the semester recess for students who are returning in Spring 2023. Mail and packages will be delivered to the area office when the area office is open during winter break. Amazon and PackCity lockers will be accessible during winter break.
Area Office Hours
The central housing office is open 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. weekdays when the university is open during winter break.

Security
The potential for thefts and other security problems increase as the end of the semester approaches. Remember that it is important to keep your room/apartment locked at all times and to be increasingly security conscious. If you notice any unusual or suspicious activity in or around the residence halls over break, please contact CWRU Police at 216.368.3333.
