10 unique things to do around Cleveland this summer

Whether you’re staying on campus for summer classes or simply soaking up the season in University Circle, there’s no shortage of ways to enjoy Cleveland in the summertime. The city comes alive with festivals, outdoor music, neighborhood block parties and pop-up food events—many of which are free or low-cost.

From watching a movie under the stars in a giant dome to strolling through arts districts, these 10 events offer something for just about everyone. Grab a friend (or go solo!) and discover what the city has to offer this season.

1. Watch summer blockbusters in the DOME.

The Great Lakes Science Center’s DOME Movies After Dark series brings cult favorites and summer hits to the Cleveland Clinic DOME Theater. Coming up: La La Land (July 3) and The Dark Knight (Aug. 7)—complete with popcorn, pretzels and a full bar. Find out more about the series.

2. Pack a picnic for Symphony at Sunset.

Every Sunday through Aug. 24, OPUS 216 performs free chamber music at Voinovich Park from 7–8:15 p.m. Bring a blanket and relax as the sun sets over Lake Erie. Discover more about Symphony a Sunset

3. Sip margaritas by the water at Tequila Fest.

On July 26, Voinovich Park transforms into a lakeside celebration of tequila and summer fun. Those of drinking age can sample dozens of tequilas, enjoy live music, and take in the downtown skyline and waterfront views. Mark your calendar for Tequila Fest

4. Chill at Gourmets in the Garden.

Thursday evenings through Sept. 4, the Cleveland Botanical Garden in University Circle hosts a series featuring local chefs, pop-up food, yoga and fitness classes. It’s the perfect midweek wind-down. Get the details about Gourmets in the Garden

5. Check out Walkabout Tremont and Walk All Over Waterloo.

These two monthly art walks showcase some of Cleveland’s most creative neighborhoods. Stroll through Tremont (second Fridays) or Waterloo (first Fridays) to find open galleries, local vendors, live music and community vibes. See more about Walkabout Tremont and plan your visit to Walk All Over Waterloo.

6. Attend Larchmere PorchFest.

On June 28, more than 30 porches along Larchmere Boulevard will transform into front-yard concert venues. Expect music of every genre, food vendors and a lively neighborhood atmosphere from 1 to 10 p.m. See the full lineup.

7. Celebrate a board game café’s 10-year anniversary.

On June 30, Tabletop Board Game Café in Ohio City is throwing a free party for members to celebrate a decade of fun. Expect food, competitions, open gaming—and a magician. Plan to attend the celebration

8. See Harry Potter in concert at Blossom.

The Cleveland Orchestra will perform the full score of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone live while the film plays on the big screen. Head to Blossom on July 5 for this magical outdoor performance. Get tickets for the event

9. Experience Cleveland’s Irish Cultural Festival.

From July 18–20, the Cuyahoga County Fairgrounds will host Irish bands, dancers, food and more to mark the 40th anniversary of this beloved Cleveland tradition. Tickets are $20 at the gate. Secure your tickets for the festival.

10. Check out Pop-Up by the Lake in Willoughby.
