Hi First_Name,
Marina Giannirakis, Student Advocate Comes to OMA!
On the first Tuesday of each month starting Sept 6th at noon, Marina Giannirakis, student advocate for gender-based violence in the Flora Stone Mather Center for Women will be in OMA. In her role, she is responsible for providing confidential advocacy to all undergraduate, graduate and professional students affected by sexual and gender-based violence.
As the student advocate, Marina is a confidential resource that is available to support all students while keeping the students’ privacy. She will focus on creating an action plan with students on what options are possible, what resources are available, and what systems they can help navigate. One of her primary responsibilities is to validate survivor’s experiences and support them regardless of if they want to report the harassment or not. Survivors, we believe you.
Now in its 13th year, the Civic Engagement Scholars program, hosted by the Center for Civic Engagement & Learning (CCEL), promotes, and recognizes meaningful student involvement in the community. Scholars complete at least 30 civic engagement hours in their choice of direct service, advocacy, philanthropy, political involvement, and more over the course of the academic year. They also participate in two all-Scholars trainings to enhance their understanding of Cleveland and social change in addition to completing a final reflection. Upon successful completion of the program, Scholars earn a Certificate of Distinction recognizing their commitment to community. Both undergraduate and graduate students of all years and majors are eligible to become Civic Engagement Scholars, and many students elect to participate in the program multiple years.
