Hi First_Name,
Do Science & Culture Fit Together?
by Júlia Tulha Hochstetler @jutulha
OMA Student Coordinator
Defining culture is not easy, but most people agree that it is what makes us human. As a biology major, I study how genes and natural selection have shaped complex life. The place that culture occupies in these discussions is harder to delimit, however. Many times, the science of biology has been misused to disrespect the diversity of culture; social darwinism and eugenics come to mind. I’m currently taking a class that discusses human behavior and how it is shaped by evolution, and our conversations often touch on these themes.
