First_Name,
Filipino American History Month
Last week we highlighted the 5 different groups who are celebrating during October. We thought we'd take a step closer to each, this month being Filipino American History Month.
Filipino Americans are the 2nd largest Asian American ethnic group (comprising about 1:5 Asian Americans, in fact, there are more ethnic Filipinos in Los Angeles than in any other city except Manila!)
Filipino-Americans are one of the fastest growing immigrant groups in the US
Filipino-Americans are more likely than other Asian-American groups to marry outside of their race (1/5 of the Filipino-American population is multiracial)
Filipino-Americans have unique experiences with racism (misperceived to be members of other racial groups like Latino, multiracial, black, or Pacific Islander. Further, many Filipinos report being told that they are not “Asian enough”)
Many Filipino-Americans choose not to identify as Asian or Asian-American, often due to a history of exclusion
Filipino-Americans have been a part of many advocacy movements throughout U.S. history.

Repaying student loans can be confusing and a little scary. Join UH&CS along with OMA and gain some insightful tips on budgeting from the Office of External Loans. You'll find out how to accurately estimate your payments, how to choose the best plan for you, and how to figure out what will best fit into your budget. If you don't have a budget, we can help you get started on that too.
OMA Loves COLLABORATIONS!
Many student organizations have great events: good turnout, students enjoy themselves, and they get something out of attending. But then there are those organizations that collaborate = they work with another organization to combine membership. We're excited about those and want to encourage this.
Pictured at left (above) is a recent BBQ Mixer with Vietnamese Student Association (VSA) & Korean American Student Association (KASA). At left (below) is Muslim Student Association (MSA) & La Alianza and their recent basketball tournament.
Keep up the great work to these student organizations!!
Extra thanks to VSA & Tram Phan and KASA
and also to La Alianza & Sebastian Guzman for the photos!
