Introducing VergeSci

Hello URS GB!

For the 2026-2027 academic year, CWRU has agreed to pilot VergeSci, a platform designed to help students discover and connect with faculty research opportunities at Case Western Reserve University.

This program was developed by an amazing team of undergraduates at the University of Chicago to help students connect with research that interests them, but also ease the burden of lab recruitment on professors. The VergeSci team has worked with us to adapt the platform to CWRU’s research landscape as part of this pilot.

One of the main missions of the Undergraduate Research Society (URS) at CWRU is to help students find meaningful research opportunities while developing skills and connections they need to succeed. With that, URS is excited to pilot VergeSci at CWRU and provide students with this unique tool to connect to faculty and research opportunities.

Over the Summer of 2026, we have had several meetings to adapt VergeSci to meet the needs of CWRU students and faculty. Recently, we have added a feature that allows professors to connect students specifically for Senior Capstone Projects and added research contacts for labs at UH and CC.

We are incredibly excited to bring VergeSci to CWRU and look forward to sharing more information with you soon!

How does VergeSci work?

Create an account with your case.edu email, upload your resume, and VergeSci will show you ALL labs on and off CWRU campus based on your specific interests.

Faculty members and PIs will "claim their accounts" and post active research opportunities for undergraduates in their labs based on time commitment, interests, capstone needs, and more! If a faculty member hasn't claimed an account, you can still directly contact that PI via email and utilize the interest-based recommendations through VergeSci!

For students:
  • Find labs based on YOUR interests
  • Contact labs directly, where each message includes a snapshot of your profile, automatically informing PIs of your interests, coursework, and existing skills
  • Events on campus related to research interests
  • Grants and Funding opportunities in one place
For faculty/PIs:
  • Reduce the number of cold emails by managing your lab on VergeSci
  • Find students who have genuine interest in your work
  • Post opportunities for undergraduates, or take a hands-off approach by managing direct messages from VergeSci in your CWRU inbox
  • Visualize how many students in departments require capstones to manage lab space for an upcoming year

NOTE: This is a pilot program that is still working to tailor VergeSci to the needs of the Case Western Reserve undergraduate population.

If you have ANY feedback, please utilize the feedback function on the VergeSci website, and the VergeSci team will make adjustments as they deem necessary, or contact the URS Executive Board, and we will get your feedback to VergeSci!

The platform begins as students populate accounts and faculty claim accounts, so we trust YOU to spread the word and pilot this with us!

Are you Interested in a Leadership Opportunity?

VergeSci is also recruiting a Case Western Reserve Campus Lead who will work to introduce students and faculty at CWRU to VergeSci and lead communication efforts between CWRU and VergeSci.

Campus Leads will support student & faculty outreach and onboarding, build relationships with research-focused organizations, gather feedback, and help make research opportunities more accessible across CWRU. The role is paid and is expected to require approximately 5–10 hours per week following initial onboarding. You may also work directly with the URS Executive team on how URS can further support undergraduate research and outreach.
