3 things to do in Cleveland in June
Sticking around Cleveland this month? Whether you’re taking classes this summer, engaged in research or live in the city year-round, there are endless opportunities to discover something new about Cleveland in June.
As the weather heats up, Cleveland comes alive with outdoor events throughout the city, many of which are free and feature a community atmosphere. Need some inspiration? Check out three events happening not far from campus in June.
Thousands of Clevelanders are expected to gather on Mall C Downtown to commemorate the day enslaved individuals in the United States were finally free. Part educational and part celebratory, this event features live music, family-friendly activities and vendors. This year’s event is June 14 from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Guests can expect performances by Karamu House, interactive art demonstrations, soul food and other community-centered offerings.
Parade the Circle, a Cleveland favorite, takes place right here in our neighborhood. This visually appealing event features community-made puppets, costumes, masks and more. Hosted by the Cleveland Museum of Art, this year’s event will take place Saturday, June 14, around Wade Oval.
Héctor Castellanos Lara will be the lead artist of this year’s snowy owl-themed event.
The parade will coincide with Circle Village, which features food, music and opportunities to engage with representatives from local institutions in University Circle.
The parade will step off at noon, with Circle Village open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Immerse yourself in the local music scene with a day of 30 performances across 30 porches throughout the Larchmere neighborhood on June 28. All members of the community are invited to this free event, which will feature 35-minute concerts with 10-minute breaks in between beginning at 2 p.m. Select local restaurants also will begin hosting concerts beginning at 8 p.m.
Celebrating its 17th year, Larchmere PorchFest was established to unite the community and put a spotlight on the local music and arts scene.
Come join students staying on campus this summer for a welcome BBQ at Leutner Pavilion. Enjoy grilled hamburgers, hot dogs, sides and drinks while playing yard games and listening to some summer tunes.
