LGBTQ+ History Month
This month we celebrate the rich history of those who fought for the LGBTQ+ rights we have today. Thanks to Rodney Wilson, a Missouri High School History teacher, in 1994 he founded this time to educate in schools, from the Stonewall Riots to the marches from 1979 and 1989 in Washington. There is still more work to be done, but we celebrate these sacrifices and look towards a future with LGBTQ+ & BIPOC acceptance, resources, education, and laws protecting us.
The LGBTQ+ History Month includes the celebration of National Coming Out Day on Oct. 11! We value everyone's safety and wish you a happy coming out. Whether you are out or not, oSTEM supports you all and will always be there to provide a safe space to be yourself! Happy LGBTQ+ History Month and learn more about our history here!
Domestic Violence Awareness Month
To love around us, we celebrate and practice safe love as we stand and support many survivors who have gone through Domestic Violence. Many Resources on campus are available for you or your loved ones at the Mather Center, Title IX office, Counseling Services, and more. In awareness, the Mather Center will be hosting a Survivor Speakout event today, Oct. 1, in Thwing from 4-6 pm. This is a safe space with different speakers and art from survivor's experiences. Resources and organizations will be tabling to provide more information, including oSTEM. Come join us and know that you are never alone. Register here.
Hispanic Heritage Month
The culture and contributions of the Latinx community throughout history are celebrated between September 15th to October 15th. Many countries celebrate their independence in between this time and it is important to recognize the importance of representation in the diversity we have today! Continue celebrating with oSTEM@CWRU the Hispanic Excellence this month and learn more about the many beautiful cultures around us!
HalloQueen Decoration Committee
Our annual HalloQueen Drag Show is coming up! Keep reading for more details! To prep for the night, we’re putting together a committee to help out with decorations. Here is a spreadsheet where you can sign up using your Case email. This is a perfect opportunity to become more involved with oSTEM@CWRU and get to know other members and exec!
There are a few ways you can assist: We have some DIY projects planned (ft. glow-in-the-dark paint), brainstorming sessions, and day-of setup for the event. We'll meet once or twice before October 25th to get ~crafty~. Specific details are in the spreadsheet.
Please let Alex Pérez know if you have any questions, comments, or suggestions!
