Dean Stan Gerson Message Accountability Management System

Welcome back to a new school year!

The Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine is deeply committed to upholding best practices for your learning environment.

Our accrediting bodies, including the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME), have clearly defined expectations for your experience as a student. Central to our commitment is ensuring a professional and respectful working environment for everyone—students, faculty and staff. Since its inception, the school has prioritized strong teacher-learner relationships, recognizing that a healthy environment is essential for fostering psychological and physical well-being. This space allows teachers, faculty, staff and students to collaborate effectively, ensuring that all students achieve their full potential.

To promote and enhance the school's approach to professional ideals and a safe environment, we launched a private, online reporting site called the Accountability Management System (AMS) in 2023. The AMS allows students, faculty and staff to share their experiences, both good and bad. You may take the opportunity to praise a faculty member, staff or student who has demonstrated exemplary conduct, or report concerning behavior—this system is for both types of feedback.

Our goal is to continue to bolster our sense of community in the School of Medicine and to help everyone grow in their professional career.

Again, welcome and have a great year!

Vice Dean Lia Logio Message

Dear Students:

Happy Mid-Summer! Hard to believe we’re into August already. Welcome to all of our new first year students! We thoroughly enjoyed celebrating the White Coat Ceremony with you.

Thanks to all of our experienced students for your help with our recent LCME Accreditation Site Visit. We recently heard from our survey team with the preliminary results. We owe much to all of you and to our many faculty and staff who helped put our best foot forward in showcasing the Case Med School. Official word won’t come from the LCME until October, but the preliminary findings are 8 citations and 2 areas requiring ongoing monitoring. This is markedly better than the national average of 16 citations, so we have a lot to celebrate! In the upcoming class meetings, I’ll share more details about the results and what we plan to do to remedy some of the identified areas.

As always, my door is open. We welcome your actionable feedback about your experience as a medical student so please respond to our surveys and share your thoughts with us.

Be well! LL
