February GSC General Assembly (GA) meeting

Join the Graduate Student Council at our General Assembly meeting tomorrow, Wednesday, February 7, at 5:30 PM to discuss what we've been up to! All graduate and professional students are welcome to attend. Free food will be provided.

Please RSVP for either in-person or virtual attendance so we have enough food and drink for all students who are coming in person. This month's GA meeting will be held in the Toepfer Room, Adelbert Hall.

Lunar New Year Celebration - TWO DATES!

The Office of DEIE is celebrating the Lunar New Year! 2024 is the Year of the Wood Dragon, welcoming strength, power, and success. In addition to authentic Asian food and tea, this event features an Exhibition"Showcase on The Role of Traditional Asian Culinary Practices (TCM) and Asian Treatment Protocols for Health, Healing, and Longevity. Additional activities include a Calligraphy Station, a Chopstick Challenge, Origami, and more! There are two installments of the same event in two different locations. CWRU SOM VITALS - Disability Health Equity Panel: "Reimagining Disability as a Strength in Healthcare" - Part II

Join us for Part II of 'Reimagining Disability as a Strength in Healthcare." We have two wonderful Panelists: Dr. Gregory Snyder, a paraplegic physician and strong advocate for Disability Health Equity. Tracy Greenberg, an Accessibility Advocate, who is returning to continue the conversation. This follow-up panel aims to delve deeper into the strengths and contributions of individuals with disabilities in the healthcare sector, highlighting their unique skills and perspectives. We'll focus on how embracing diversity, including disability, enhances patient care and strengthens the healthcare community.

Ojebuoboh, is about the medical school experiences of five Black women, including their perspectives that reveal the difficulties of and the beauty in finding belonging, remaining authentic, and staying true to themselves in higher education spaces that were initially built without minority females in mind. Graduate Student Council Town Hall

In following our November General GSC Assembly meeting, the Graduate Student Council is happy to host a town hall event with representatives from the Office of Equity, the Office of Graduate Studies, and the Office of Student Affairs. Representatives from each of these offices will give a short presentation on what services their offices provide to graduate students, and will then answer general questions for the remainder of the event in an open Q&A. This event will be on February 21st, from 5:30pm – 7:00pm in Samson Room 176 at the Health Education Campus. Food will be provided. Title IX Advisor and Panel Member training

The Office of Equity, which is the Office of the Title IX Coordinator, which supports students and employees experiencing discrimination and harassment, including sexual harassment and gender-based violence, is seeking to train interested undergraduate and graduate students to serve as Advisors and Panel Members. Donation Drive for the Collaborative Practice Initiative - Opioid Taskforce

Group B11 for Collaborative Practice is holding a donation drive in support of Stella Maris, one of two stand-alone detox providers in Greater Cleveland. Stella Maris provides transformational chemical dependency and mental health treatment services to anyone regardless of race, religion, gender or ability to pay. Boxes will be located in the Health Education Campus Suite 160 and the Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel School of Applied Social Sciences. We are collecting new or gently used adult clothing for all genders Socks and undergarments (new only please) Jeans, pants, and shorts Shirts and sweatshirts Winter outerwear - jackets, hats, gloves, boots Professional attire New personal hygiene products for all genders Body wash Body lotion and hand cream Chapstick and lip balms Deodorant Dental care products Shampoo and conditioners Tampons and sanitary products.



Profiles of Inclusive Excellence Speaker Series

 

 

Dr. Camille Warner

Join us for an engaging installment of the Profiles of Inclusive Excellence Speaker Series, a collaborative effort by the African American Alumni Association, Case Western Reserve University's Office for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusive Engagement, and the African and African American Studies minor. Delve into insightful conversations highlighting faculty and staff work and research in this virtual one-on-one interview format hosted by Dr. Heather E. Burton, Associate Vice President, and Senior Director for Faculty and Institutional Diversity. Camille Beckette Warner, PhD, is a distinguished Associate Dean for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at Case Western Reserve University's Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing. With over 25 years of experience, her expertise encompasses aging, medical sociology, intergenerational caregiving, and research methodology, focusing on social inequalities and justice throughout life's stages. Dr. Warner is deeply involved in advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion in higher education and healthcare, contributing extensively to national committees and professional organizations like the American Sociological Association and the Gerontological Association of America. A respected scholar and advocate, she's presented scientific findings, led workshops on cultural diversity, and co-authored articles and book chapters on aging and healthcare. Dr. Warner's commitment extends beyond academia; she's dedicated to fostering inclusivity and belonging. As a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., she embodies leadership and progress in advancing diversity and equity in society.

Office of Interprofessional and Interdisciplinary Education and Research to launch Tuesday Connections

The Office of Interprofessional and Interdisciplinary Education and Research invites Case Western Reserve University students, faculty and staff to Tuesday Connections. The weekly community-building events aim to bring together members of the Health Education Campus of Case Western Reserve University and Cleveland Clinic, the wider university community and Northeast Ohio partners. Opportunities will vary each week.

  • Beginning Jan. 16: Take part in salon-style themed conversations on a variety of topics. 
  • Beginning Jan. 23: Join the Connecting Book Club to discuss one book for two months (in-person and remote options). The first book selection is The Art of Gathering by Priya Parker.
  • Beginning Feb. 6: Join the Collaborative Practice Journal Club for discussions on journal articles related to collaboration, human interactions and working together.
