Hi First_Name,

OMA Newsletter

For those new to Cleveland - the Weather!?

Whether you're from out of the country, or just a newcomer to Cleveland, this last week and a half have been quite the weather experience for all of us!

We had 12 confirmed tornadoes in NorthEast Ohio from August 24-25 with the first ever in downtown Cleveland in modern history! 145,000 customers in Northeast Ohio lost their power overnight. And that was after the Flash Flood advisory earlier that week. Then just this week there were 3 confirmed earthquakes registering between 2.3 and 3.7 in magnitude further east of us outside of Madison, Ohio.

So is Cleveland dangerous? What can we expect in the future? Actually Cleveland has been rated the 2nd safest city in the United States, least likely to be destroyed by a natural disaster. (the lowest risk of being flooded, rocked by earthquakes, battered by hurricanes, struck with tornadoes, or burned by wildfires)  While we may have tornadoes from time to time, they are likely pretty weak, EF0 & EF1, and less than 4% of Ohio tornadoes have resulted in deaths. Two of the three recent earthquakes were barely noticeable.

While the Farmer's Almanac predicts a winter with below-average temperatures and excessive precipitation - they were wrong this past year. Ohio generally has mild winters. The state ranks #22 in the country for the most snowfall and snowfall days yearly. But Ohio also rates #4 in the country for fatal winter vehicle accidents - so whatever our snowfall, be sure to DRIVE SAFELY.

Join OMA's Growing Display of Cultural Group Leaders

We have reached out to many cultural groups across campus in order to help students get to know them better. In addition to the larger display of ALL the groups including their missions and logos in the hallway just off our lounge, we also have a display of the photos of leaders, answering a few questions so you can get to know them better. Check it out - or better yet, encourage your group's leader to respond to the email we sent out!
