LGBT History Month

LGBT History at CWRU

Join the LGBT center for a variety of events. All are welcome!

History fact of the week:

The Stonewall Riots, also called the Stonewall Uprising, began in the early hours of June 28, 1969 when New York City police raided the Stonewall Inn, a gay club located in Greenwich Village in New York City. The raid sparked a riot among bar patrons and neighborhood residents as police roughly hauled employees and patrons out of the bar, leading to six days of protests and violent clashes with law enforcement outside the bar on Christopher Street, in neighboring streets and in nearby Christopher Park. The Stonewall Riots served as a catalyst for the gay rights movement in the United States and around the world.

Mondays are for the Boys: Masculinity Mondays

Audience: CWRU Men-Identified Students

Masculinity Mondays is a new initiative presented by a group of fraternities on campus in which participants will discuss various topics and their relationship to masculinity.

The goal is to take a topic and build a discussion based on a piece of related media, giving participants the opportunity to connect personal experiences to shared values and evaluate what masculinity means to them in this new context. The most important part is to ask questions: “How can I apply these values to my daily life? What am I doing well and what can I do to improve?”

Students will meet Oct. 25, Nov. 1, Nov. 15 and Nov. 22. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m., with the discussion from 6 to 7 p.m. Dinner will be provided. Prior to each session, students can visit the Masculinity Mondays Instagram page (@masculinitymondayscwru) to find that week’s topic, link to a piece of media and a brief preview of the discussion. The Instagram page also will include a link to CampusGroups to register for the next session.

Reminders

COVID-19 Reminders & Mask Wearing

Update: Masks

Thank you to everyone who has been wearing their mask consistently! There will no longer be warnings for mask violations. If you are in a common area and not actively eating or drinking, you must be wearing a mask. These policies are across all residence halls. You can expect a residence life member to document violations. This is especially important as students return from around the world from break.

Vaccinated residents across campus and in our building have tested positive for COVID-19. While the vaccines have allowed us to be fully present on campus by greatly reducing cases, there is still a possibility of transmission. If there are any questions, feel free to reach out to Tessa and/or Justin.

BiWeekly Testing - Not our week!

For detailed information on weekly testing, click here.

These protocols are helping all of us to stay on campus and in person!

How many cases are on campus? Check out the COVID dashboard here!

Weekly Shout Outs

Donovan Wu

Donovan (3rd Floor) was the most supportive person in Clarke during Midterm week. He gave out free food, hugs, and advice to anyone who was struggling. Just hearing his voice brings a smile to everyone's faces, and he puts us all at ease when we're stressed.

Know of a fellow resident in our community who we should give a shout out to? Submit here!
