Communication with International Students, Colleagues and Partners

The Mandel School Office of International Affairs, LINK (Local InterNational Konnection), and the University's Office of International Student Services are planning a "Say My Name" workshop.  Additionally, the Mandel School wants to gauge interest for other possible trainings to enhance communication.  Please take this survey so planning can begin for the Spring, 2020 semester.  Please contact Kim McFarlin or Melissa Van with any questions.

Update on Digital Accessibility

Thank you for your support and participation in the Digital Accessibility Training Workshops that were held in August and September.  Francine Diaz, Digital Accessibility Coordinator and Instructional Designer, will update future workshops based on the feedback she received.  Additionally, Francine will provide tips and new information about changes you can make to increase the inclusivity of your course materials via this newsletter.  To expand upon that, please reach her directly for assistance in making all of your courses ADA compliant.  Francine's primary goal is to make it easy for course developers to adopt accessibilty principles.

New and Updated Google Group Email Lists

As part of our ongoing effort to reduce unnecessary emails, we are creating (or updating) two additional Google email lists that will target those who work in each of our two buildings.  Occasionally, there are messages that cut across all faculty and staff, but only pertain to those in a particular location.  This will prevent us from having to email an unnecessarily large group.  The two emails are:

  • mandel-b@case.edu: All faculty and staff in the Mandel Building (11235 Bellflower)
  • mandel-c@case.edu: All faculty and staff in the Mandel Center (11402 Bellflower)

Student employees can also be on these lists; please submit those names to Karoline Kramer if necessary.

Over the next few days, you may receive an email to let you know you have been added to one of these groups.  Please get in touch with either Karoline Kramer or Craig Zullig if you have any questions.  Thank you.

Nash Walkway Work Continues - See the Progress

More progress has been made on the Nash Walkway.  Beyond the jackhammering we heard so much about, the construction crew has framed out the three amenities that MSASS will gain: a study garden (former loading dock), monumental steps (connecting to our courtyard), and Ford Plaza (enhanced entrance from Ford Road).  It is anticipated this work will be complete by the end of November.

Those piles of dirt may not look like much now, but that's the site of the future study garden.  Note the completed walkway pavers in the foreground.

Site of future monumental steps that will connect to our courtyard.  The construction crew had to demolish the existing wall completely (inside of the former planter) because it was unstable (not surprising to us).

Future home of Ford Plaza, our ehanced entrance by Ford Road.
