On the Move - Welcome to the Mandel School

Elizabeth Bach-Van Valkenburgh is a new Lecturer at the Mandel School who began this semester.  She is an alumni of the Mandel School and her concentration was adult mental health.  For the past 25 years, she has worked with survivors of trauma in a variety of settings in the Cleveland community.  Elizabeth also has 6 years of graduate training at the Gestalt Institute specializing in family, couples, small systems and groups.  She is a trained mediator and collaborative divorce expert who teaches these models state wide.  She received her Certificate in Non-Profit Management (CNM) from the Mandel Center which is where she became interested in mediation.   She is also a continuing education provider for the State of Ohio Social Work, Counselor and Marriage and Family Board.

Maureen Riley-Behringer is a new Lecturer at the Mandel School who began this semester.  She has been a clinical social worker for the last 25 years and has taught undergraduate and graduate social work courses.  Across multiple clinical settings, Maureen has worked with children, youth and adult populations from diverse backgrounds.  A practice specialization has been working with those who are building new families through foster care and adoptive placement following children's early life trauma experiences.  Her main areas of academic study relate to foster and adoptive family support, life after trauma, parent decision-making, and factors influencing interdisciplinary care team decision-making.

Did You Know...?

Case Western Reserve University has an International Friendship Program that matches international students with Case Western Reserve alumni, staff, faculty and friends.  The program helps students make the transition to life in the U.S., gives hosts the opportunity to learn about other nationalities and cultures, and serves as a springboard for friendships that often last beyond a student's stay at Case Western Reserve.  You can apply to be a host at any time.  Contact program co-coordinators Liz Woyczynski or Diana Fox at international-friendship-program@case.edu to learn more.
