Happy New Year!

Happy New Year and welcome back, everyone. A big welcome to our new students on campus as well. Those of us over at University Health and Counseling Services (UH&CS) are glad to see students back on campus this week. While we are glad to have you back on campus, we know this is generally when colds tend to spread throughout the campus community. If you feel under the weather, schedule an appointment with us. UH&CS is here for your physical health needs. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, stressed, or depressed, you can schedule an appointment with counseling services. UH&CS is here to support you through whatever health ailment you may experience this semester.
UH&CS provides medical, mental health, wellness, and public health services to all CWRU, CIA, CIM, and KSU Podiatry students. All visits to UH&CS are no cost to students, regardless of the type of health insurance you may have.

Welcome, new students. We are excited to have you join the CWRU community. While you are a student at Case Western Reserve University, we want to ensure that the Student Medical Plan and Services are a positive experience for you. The university has contracted with Aetna Student Health in order to offer enhanced services that are easy to use, affordable, and adaptable to your health care needs. One of the highlights of the Plan is an extensive nationwide health care network with access to doctors and specialists. The Student Medical Plan is offered as a supplement to the excellent care available to all Case Western Reserve students from University Health Services and University Counseling Services.
If you have alternate health insurance coverage that is compliant with the University's waiver criteria, you may submit a waiver to opt out of the coverage.

The deadline to waive the medical plan is January 23rd.

Happy Lights

Is the joy of being back on campus dampened for you by the lack of sun we experience in Cleveland? The days may be getting longer, but the grey skys persist over the city. If you have noticed you are feeling low at this point in the season, it may be from the lack of sun exposure, and you may be experiencing Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) — a type of depression that can show up during the fall and winter months when there’s less sunlight. It’s normal for moods to dip sometimes, but if you notice these feelings sticking around or getting harder to manage, reach out! You can make a same-day appointment with UH&CS or connect with TimelyCare to talk about what’s going on.
There are ways to support yourself and feel better, including therapy, medication, and light therapy. While you hopefully know that you can reach out to UH&CS for therapy and consultation, did you know that UH&CS has light therapy lamps available for use at our clinic, as well as to borrow for a one-month period of time?
To learn more about access to the Happy Lights, please visit the Happy Light webpage by clicking here.
