October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and it’s a time for our community to pause, learn, and take action. Domestic violence affects people of all genders, ages, and backgrounds—including college students. By talking about it openly, we can help break the stigma, support survivors, and work toward a culture where healthy, respectful relationships are the norm. This newsletter shares essential information and resources, enabling us all to be allies in prevention and care.

π Understanding Domestic Violence
Domestic violence isn’t just physical harm—it can also involve emotional manipulation, financial control, digital harassment, or isolating someone from their support systems. Many survivors experience multiple forms of abuse at the same time. Recognizing the warning signs—such as excessive jealousy, monitoring, threats, or pressuring behavior—helps us identify when a friend or peer might need support. Awareness is the first step in prevention.
π€ Supporting Survivors in Our Community
When someone shares their experience, the most powerful thing we can do is listen without judgment. Phrases like “I believe you” and “You are not alone” can make a lasting impact. Respect their choices, avoid pressuring them, and connect them with resources if they want support. As members of Greek life, we can model empathy and accountability, showing that our organizations are safe and supportive spaces.

Lunch and Conversation for the CWRU Greek Life Community facilitated by Associate Director of Greek Life Jason Steckel. Whether you are an outgoing officer, considering running for office, or just curious, attend this luncheon to discuss how chapters can effectively transition officers into their roles. Jason will bring his experience as a former chapter president and current chapter advisor to help create dialogue around having smooth and effective transitions. You are encouraged to bring any transition plans your chapter currently uses to help facilitate a more robust conversation.
All members of the Greek Community are invited. Lunch (tacos) will be provided. Please register by noon on Wednesday, October 1. This allows adequate time to order enough food for all attendees.
