New info revealed about Hegseth’s insecure internet usage in Signalgate scandal

A second Signal chat has hit the timeline!
On March 28th we reported on Atlantic journalist Jeffery Goldberg being mistakenly added to a Signal group chat where classified information about airstrikes in Yemen.
On April 20th The New York Times reported that Hegseth had another Signal group chat, consisting of some family members and a lawyer. Here he also shared information about airstrikes.
On April 24th AP reported that Hegseth used an unsecured internet line in his office at the Pentagon to communicate on Signal. By law, access to the wider internet at the Pentagon is heavily restricted. Until Hegseth’s hiring, electronic devices were not allowed in the Defense Secretary’s office.

University of Toledo is axing nine majors, seemingly in response to SB1

An April 21 news release from the University of Toledo declares nine undergraduate majors will be cut. The majors are: Africana Studies, Disability Studies, Women’s and Gender Studies, Asian Studies, Middle East Studies, Spanish, and Religion. Data Analytics, Philosophy, and Spanish will also be cut, but seem unrelated to SB1. University officials said that the majors were cut due to low enrollment, not for any DEI-related reasons.

Kaler’s absence from the AAC&U “Call for Constructive Engagement” is telling

On April 22, the American Association of Colleges and Universities issued a public statement opposing government overreach in higher education and rejecting “the coercive use of public research funding.” As of April 24, it has 443 signatures from presidents of universities across the country. President Kaler has not chosen to sign, and his hesitation or reluctance to do so indicates a failure to observe the very real threats to CWRU coming from the federal government.
