Message from Vice Dean Logio

I hope you are all staying warm in this crazy cold we’re having. Did you know that January is National Mentoring Month! Do you have a mentor? Are you mentoring someone else? Everyone can mentor…there are always people looking up to you and how you got to where you are. Reach back and offer to advise, encourage, mentor others. And make sure you have trusted people who are invested in your success…that’s what a mentor is. Mentors help you flourish, protect you from burnout, and celebrate your step-by-step progress with you.

Shout out to Thomas Syphan, MS4, who substituted for an IQ facilitator recently and was given high praise by the students in his group. This is a nice example of inspiring other with who you are and what you do!

Exciting times as the M3s round the bend of their clerkship year and the M4s get ready for match results….and then graduation!! I can’t wait to celebrate with all of you.

Notices

Buildings - Card Access Only

Following the safety measures put in place at the end of fall semester, all buildings on the Case Western Reserve University campus will remain card-access only using valid CWRU IDs until further notice.

There still have been no threats against or security concerns at our university; however, we are evaluating our safety measures to ensure our campus is as safe as possible for our entire community.

As a reminder, building access is available as follows:

  • Academic buildings: All faculty, staff and student IDs will work in every academic building.

  • Administrative buildings: ID card access will be limited to those who work within each specific administrative building. Those needing access to additional buildings for business purposes should coordinate in advance with their colleagues in these buildings.

Please know that this move may cause some access issues; please call the CWRU Police non-emergency number at 216.368.3300 or contact a nearby police or security officer if you need assistance gaining access to a building.

As a reminder, do not:

  • prop interior or exterior doors at any time,

  • hold an outside door open for strangers, or

  • allow strangers to “piggyback” on your access card.

Small Group Rooms

There has been discussion around Med Ed students having difficulty with many of the small group rooms (289 and 213 rooms), as they are being used by undergraduates. If you run into this issue, please call the Security Desk at 216-444-3362 to have the undergrads removed from the room. If there is no answer, please call the Cleveland Clinic Police at 216-444-2250; the dispatcher will send a security officer.
