💘 Greek Life Valentine’s Day Fun Facts! 💘
Whether you're spending Valentine’s Day with a date, your Greek fam, or just a box of chocolate (respect), here are some fun facts to get you in the spirit! ❤️
💌 The first Valentine’s message was sent in 1415 by Charles, Duke of Orleans, to his wife from prison.
🌹 Red roses = love, but in Greek mythology, they’re linked to Aphrodite, the goddess of love. So basically, buying roses is just paying tribute to the original matchmaker.
🍫 Over 58 million pounds of chocolate are sold the week before Valentine’s Day. Whether you're single or taken, this is the real love story.
💖 “Wearing your heart on your sleeve” comes from the Middle Ages when knights literally wore their crush’s ribbon during jousts.
🐶 Pets get Valentine’s gifts too! About 27.6 million people buy presents for their pets
🎭 The first Valentine’s cards were handmade in the 1700s, featuring poetry and lace
Giortaste is an annual recognition banquet celebrating the prior year's achievements of the Greek community. This event takes into consideration the hard work, impact, and excellence of Greek Leaders & Citizens in 2024.
Come make cards for seniors in nursing homes through the organization Letters Against Isolation. Snacks and crafting supplies will be provided! It is open to all CWRU students and it will be extra credit for MATH122 and PHYS116, an Explore event for first-year students, and a service hour for Greek students.
