Welcome to issue 43 of Staff Plan-it and the last newsletter of 2019!  Due to the extended Winter Break, the next issue will be Monday, January 6, 2020.  Please plan accordingly when submitting news items and enjoy the extra time off!
 


On the Move - Welcome to the Mandel School

Emily Coffey joins the Admissions Department as its new coordinator on January 6, 2020.  She graduated from Kent State University in 2018.  Emily lives in Rocky River with her husband and their corgi puppy, Stella.  She enjoys traveling, playing board games, and spending time with her family.  She will sit in Suite 207.





Mandel School graduate Xinyuan Cui (pronunciation: Shin-you-An Ts-way) joins the Community Innovation Network (CIN) at the Poverty Center as a program coordinator on December 16, 2019.  Xinyuan is passionate about cultivating intentional and productive community engagement, and they will coordinate the implementation of CIN's applied and research projects.  They received their BS in Finance, Economics, and Leadership Development from the State University of New York (Stony Brook).  Xinyuan gew up in Henan, China.  They are a Chinese Incense Lecturer and encourage individuals to see the beauty and strength of diversity through practicing the philosphy of Chinese incense.

Junghyae Lee is excited to join the Begun Center on January 2, 2020 as a Research Associate.  Through her doctoral studies at Kent State University and as a Research Associate at the Case Western Reserve University Dental School, she has sharpened her research skills and knowledge of community-based interventions.  She loves learning, challenges, and the social behavioral sciences.  Junghyae lives with her husband and two children in Hudson and looks forward to getting to know her colleagues at the Mandel School.



Shawnriel Pope joins the Academic Affairs Department on December 16, 2019 as a Coordinator.  Born and raised in Cleveland, Shawnriel graduated from Luthern High School East.  She received her BS in Human Development and Family Science from The Ohio State University.  Her hobbies include reading fiction, shopping, and binge-watching shows on Hulu.




On the Move - Promotion
 

Ashley Bukach has been promoted to Assistant Director (Research Associate) of the Begun Center's Partnership for Evaluation, Research, and Implementation (PERI) effective December 1, 2019.  She will direct PERI's project reporting and dissemination efforts and develop and execute funding expansion strategies for the partnership, in addition to her research associate duties at the Begun Center.




 


Winter Party Thank You

Thanks to everyone who attended the School's Winter Party last week.  We hope it kicked off everyone's holiday season in style!

And, a special thank you to those who organized it - Valerie Beard, Rachel Blake, Samantha Cocco, Karoline Kramer, Andrea Porter, Valerie Rambin, Valerie Robinson, James Strawser, and Melissa Van.  Each year, we all look forward to this gathering and appreciate the work it takes to make a memorable and unique event.  Thank You!
 


CWRU Professional Development Day

Case Western Reserve University's second annual Professional Development Day will be Tuesday, January 28, 2020.  CWRU staff, faculty, graudate students, and post docs are all invited to attend a hands-on workshop on coaching taught by Ellen Van Oosten (MGT '94; GRS '13, organizational behavior) Associate Professor in the Department of Organizational Behavior.  Opening remarks will be provided by Academic Impressions, a new campus partner.  The workshop is from 12:45 - 2:30 p.m. on January 28, 2020 in the Tinkham Veale University Center, Ballroom A.  Lunch will be provided.  Please register for this event.

 


Apply Now for the 2020 Train the Champion Program


Applications are now being accepted for the 2020 Train the Champion Program, sponsored by the Office for Inclusion, Diversity and Equal Opportunity. Program participants meet monthly throughout the academic year to explore and discuss various aspects of diversity, including race, religion, gender expression and other aspects.

The program is designed to develop diversity champions who will actively work to create a more welcoming and inclusive campus environment. It also provides an opportunity for engagement with members of the CWRU community around diversity differences.

The deadline for applying is Wednesday, December 18, 2019.
