Check out the Amazing Blooms @ Lake View Cemetery

Each year, thousands of visitors arrive at Daffodil Hill. But after being one of those visitors last year, I would say that singular the word "hill" is a drastic misnomer - it's MUCH MUCH bigger than a single hill as it goes on and on.

Not to miss are their funny signs encouraging visitors not to pick or trample on the flowers. One sign "What happens to people who pick our flowers?  Hint: Look around."  (you're in a cemetery! lol)

Here's a link to the map - with Daffodil Hill at the center.

Happy Solar New Year!

The solar new year of many South and Southeast Asian calendars is celebrated between April 13–15. The date is based on the sidereal year, which observes the movement of the sun relative to the stars. The new year is marked by the sun's entry into the constellation Aries (as it is known in hellenistic astrology).

There is a rich diversity of traditions and celebrations during the new year. For instance for Vishu, celebrated in regions of Kerala and Tamil Nadu, it is common to assemble a plate of auspicious joyful items the day before, and to have them as the first thing one sees when they wake up on the Vishu day. The sight of the good things – which often include rice, fruit, flowers, and golden ornaments – bless the future with joy and success!

Songkran (traditional New Year in the Buddhist calendar) festivals are celebrated across Southeast Asia. In many places, such as Laos, it is common to sprinkle or pour water onto one another as a sign of respect, blessings and good wishes. The perfumed water is also used to bathe Buddha images, in an act to wash away bad actions.

There are many more ways in which the world celebrates during this time. Whether it's Bohag Bihu in Assam, India, Aluth Avurrudda in Sri Lanka, or Bisket Jatra in Nepal and the many other celebrations all over south and south east Asia, the Office of Multicultural Affairs wishes a Happy New Year to all who celebrate!
