The transition from high school to college can be stressful to freshmen, when classes become more demanding and writing effective academic papers is part of the graduation requirement. International students, many of whom have little to none previous experience writing academic papers in English, face additional challenges. In this interactive presentation, the presenters will share their experience of helping international students navigate the library system at CWRU and discuss how their collaborative efforts enabled international students to transit from "novices" to "experts" in intercultural communication, critical thinking, conducting research, and writing highly complex academic papers. Through participating in interactive activities, attendees will also have an opportunity to explore more deeply about their own research interests and apply the strategies shared by the presenters to refining their research topics.

If you can, please bring your laptop for interactive activities.

Speakers:
Yuening Zhang, Research Services Librarian, Kelvin Smith Library;
Shaofei Lu, Lecturer, Department of English
