Have you launched an assessment and asked, what now? Do you end the academic year overloaded with qualitative and quantitative data, but are unsure how to use it? More students with diagnosed chronic health conditions are attending higher education institutions than ever before. These students often start their collegiate education on medications. But what happens if they choose to discontinue their medication? What happens if their health diagnoses result in disruptive behavior? Nationally, universities have their share of highly disruptive, but minimally risky students. These students cause a significant amount of disruption in their residence halls, academic classes, and departments across campus. While their risk level is assessed as low, their disruption level is significant. In caring for these students, while also caring for our campus community, CWRU has had to strengthen our inter-departmental collaborative relationships. In this presentation, we hope to share our best practices and knowledge to faculty and staff who might also be struggling to care for these students.
Speakers:
Jessie Lombardi, Associate Director for Care and Crisis Management, University Health & Counseling Services;
Luke Ahrens, Assistant Dean of Students and Case Manager, Dean of Students Office;
Kim Scott, Assistant Dean of Students and Case Manager. Dean of Students Office;

The transition from high school to college can be stressful to freshmen, when classes become more demanding and writing effective academic papers is part of the graduation requirement. International students, many of whom have little to none previous experience writing academic papers in English, face additional challenges. In this interactive presentation, the presenters will share their experience of helping international students navigate the library system at CWRU and discuss how their collaborative efforts enabled international students to transit from "novices" to "experts" in intercultural communication, critical thinking, conducting research, and writing highly complex academic papers. Through participating in interactive activities, attendees will also have an opportunity to explore more deeply about their own research interests and apply the strategies shared by the presenters to refining their research topics.
If you can, please bring your laptop for interactive activities.
