Mission Kendo is Japanese for "Way of the Sword." It is descended from the traditional Japanese art of sword-fighting. In Kendo, practitioners use bamboo swords called shinai and wear armor, called Bogu, for practice, sparring, and tournaments/competitions. As a modern martial art, Kendo also involves practicing kata or "forms'' using wooden swords called bokken. The Case Kendo Club hopes to provide students of all skill levels with the opportunity to learn, practice, and compete in Kendo events and tournaments. Practices are held from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Wednesdays and Fridays, as well as from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm on Sundays in the multipurpose room in the Veale Recreation Center.
Membership BenefitsMembers of the Case Kendo Club will be able to learn Kendo from excellent senseis, as well as practice and spar with other members. Case Kendo also provides all the equipment required at practice for beginners, as well as Bogu for when members are ready for sparring. Case Kendo offers numerous ways to test one's ability in Kendo through tournaments like the Case Student Cup in the fall and Cleveland Kendo Tournament in the spring. In addition, members may attend joint practices with Kendo clubs of other colleges such as The Ohio State University and Kent State University. Members may also attend practices at the Cleveland Kendo Association.
