Mission Kendo is Japanese for "Way of the Sword." It is the traditional Japanese art of sword-fighting. Kendo, like any other martial art, stresses personal, mental, and physical growth equally, and one may only get out of kendo what one puts into it. Membership in the Kendo club costs $25 per semester.Learning Kendo is a long process. Approximately the first two months of practices will be entirely footwork and cutting, no sparring. After that, students will test from one of our sensei to wear bogu (the armor) and begin practice against opponents. It will be at least another month before a student is ready for free sparring and competition.
Membership BenefitsAs a member of Kendo, members are allowed the opportunity for mental and physical growth through the discipline needed to persevere through the traditional Japanese art of sword fighting. Case Kendo offers numerous ways to test one's ability of Kendo through tournaments like the Case Student Cup and Cleveland Kendo tournament. In addition, we have joint practices with Kendo clubs of other colleges such as The Ohio State University and Kent State University. Therefore, through experiencing the way of Japanese thinking and meeting a variety of amazing people, members will surely have their perspectives expanded to new horizons and potentially meet life-long friends.
