FAQs

Where do you skate? We skate at the Cleveland Heights Community Center Pavilion.

Where is it? 1 Monticello Blvd. Cleveland, OH 44106.  Right off of Mayfield.

How do I get there? You can drive.  There is free parking.  You can also use rideshare such as Uber or Lyft.  There are also buses that run there from various places around campus.  From northside, it is easiest to take the 9 bus from the Cornell or Circle Dr stops.  From South Side, it is easiest to take the 7 bus from the intersection of Murray Hill and Cedar.

Do I need any experience? No.  We allow absolutely anybody to join our club.  The vase majority of members have little to no skating experience.

When do we skate? Currently, there are monthly public sessions that we carpool to.  For freestyle sessions, you can go anytime you want.  There is no formal schedule.  Please reach out for more information.

What do I wear to public sessions? We recommend wearing clothes you can move comfortably in.  Try sweatpants or leggings, not jeans.  Also, have a hat and gloves.  Wear long, thin socks.

Who can attend a freestyle/free skate session? Anybody that owns their own skates.

When can I attend a free skate session? Anytime there is a session available.  There will not necessarily be other members of the CWRU Skating Club there, though.

Do you have a carpool system in place for free skate sessions? Unfortunately not, but hopefully next year we can make it happen.

What is the Cleveland Pavilion's schedule? Here is a link, unfortunately, sometimes it is broken? https://www.chparks.com/405/Public-Skating

Do you teach ice skating? We can help you learn how to go over some basics at public skate sessions, but we do not formally instruct anybody.

Do you compete? While there is no official team, skaters that are registered with USFSA can compete for Case Western Reserve University. If you want to get funding to compete, please let us know in the semester BEFORE the competition occurs, and we can try to get you funding.  Usually, we can get a portion of transportation covered.

When are elections? We have executive board elections either at the end of the Spring semester or the beginning of the Fall semester.

Who can run to be on the board? Anyone can be on the board.  We base our votes on commitment to forwarding the club, not on skating experience.  You must have held a previous executive position in the club in order to be president.

How are members elected?  The current board votes on the new board.
