Leadership

Leadership

CWRU Greek Life Office and IFC/PHC council hold various leadership development opportunities, such as The Lyceum, The Academy, and Upstander 101. These flagship leadership and community development programs are key foundation to the success and positive change movement in the CWRU Greek Community. 82% of attendees from all three programs combined went on to hold a chapter or Greek Community leadership role. The Greek Life Office also hires one student, the Leadership Intern, to support this pillar.

We as a Greek community strive to promote ethical and effective leadership. We encourage students to develop success by learning from failure, celebrate accomplishments, and always work to better every situation that they encounter.

Ideals of Leadership

  • Striving for the best
  • Engaging each individual student
  • The Academy

The Academy is a leadership development program run every Fall by the Greek Life Office staff and Leadership Intern. Chapters identify their future leaders, who are encouraged to apply and attend each year.

Throughout the course of the weekend, students learn about what it's like to be a leader on CWRU's campus, not only in their chapters, but in the broader community as well. Students break into small groups, where they talk about specific issues and strategies about how to deal with them, and then come back into a large group to discuss community-wide issues and how to solve them.

Many Academy participants go on to hold leadership positions in their chapters, as well as the Interfraternity Congress and Panhellenic Council governing bodies. They overall feel more equipped to do these positions and succeed due to their experience at The Academy.

    The Academy 2024

    October 11th 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM & October 12th 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM

Student Facilitators will be an important part of The Academy 2024. Facilitators are drawn from the most experienced and well-versed leaders in Greek Life. This role is a great opportunity to experience a different angle of Greek Life by cultivating the next generation of Greek Leaders. As a facilitator, you will drive the conversations and discussions in small group sessions at the Academy. Interacting with a small group in this capacity is an awesome way to gain leadership for yourself, but also to give back to the community in a unique role. In addition to being a great resume-builder, you will be helping solve a need that Greek Life needs to address today - developing future leaders. If you are a senior wondering what next, outgoing Exec/President/VP, or are not yet ready to conclude your impact on Greek Life, consider this opportunity to galvanize your contributions to Greek Life as a Student Facilitator.

  • Coaching for Compassion

  • Big Mentoring Program

The Greek Leadership Interns, in collaboration with Order of Omega Honor Society and Culture of Care Guru, Scott Heydt, developed curriculum rooted in Ritual and Leadership for New Member Educators to use with potential Big Brothers and Big Sisters with the following goals:

    • Participants will differentiate between qualities and behaviors within the scope and outside the scope of a Big Brother/Big Sister relationship.
    • Participants will review the Big Brother/Big Sister job description and associated assets.
    • Participants will be able to describe the difference between healthy and unhealthy big little relationships through scenario activities.
