First Year Cleveland (FYC): Executive Director

First Year Cleveland (FYC) is currently seeking a passionate, dynamic, highly skilled professional to serve as its next Executive Director. FYC is a broad-scale, cross-sector partnership aimed at supporting the region's nonprofit and healthcare ecosystem to improve maternal and infant health outcomes and eliminate racial inequities in infant mortality throughout Greater Cleveland. The partnership is rooted in a commitment to achieving racial equity; it recognizes the challenges that result from systemic racism, and views racism as a public health crisis.

For more than six decades, Cuyahoga County has had one of the highest infant death rates in the country. In 2015, the County was the worst of 88 counties in Ohio. Among 100 U.S. cities with the highest number of births, Cleveland's premature birth rate, the primary cause of infant mortality, was the worst. By the end of that year, 13 civic leaders established FYC—a public-private partnership aimed at reversing the 50-year trend of dire infant mortality rates in Cleveland and Cuyahoga County. Since its inception, reducing racial disparities has been central to FYC's efforts with a particular focus on reducing Black infant mortality.

The executive director will lead FYC in its expanded efforts to decrease Black, non-Hispanic infant mortality by focusing on a health care delivery and community-driven model of impact, including a targeted focus on Black expectant mothers and the prenatal period. Working with FYC's Executive Committee, this individual will ensure that the communities most impacted by the underlying drivers of poor birth outcomes, such as racism, low access to health care and toxic stress, drive FYC's decision-making.

The job posting for the FYC Executive Director position is available on the Case Western Reserve University employment website:
