The Center for Civic Engagement is hosting a series for students to participate in civic engagement and excursions to connect to Cleveland assets this March.
Opportunities to volunteer include sorting books for kids and medical supplies for developing countries, assisting at a local food pantry, and preparing a garden for spring. Experience a greenhouse, explore an underground art gallery, enjoy a treat in downtown Cleveland, and more!

8:30 AM – 12:30 PM
MedWish collects and delivers medical supplies to those providing medical care in developing countries. Volunteers will help sort materials into categorized bins for future shipments.
8:45 AM – 12:00 PM
Assist in the Hershey Children's Garden with leaf removal along with weeding, cutting back plants, and general garden spring clean-up.
12:50 PM – 3:00 PM
Come explore Cleveland with CCEL! It only takes a quick trip on the RTA to reach The Cleveland Public Library in downtown Cleveland. The walk to the library is beautiful with interesting collections such as chess, very old preserved books, and baseball history. The library includes an exhibit, "Celebrate Those Who Give Black", that tells the story of Black philanthropic efforts across northeast Ohio (it features CWRU alum, Donte Gibbs)!
9:30 AM – 1:30 PM
Adoption Network Cleveland is moving to a new location and needs volunteers to help to make a successful transition to their new location. The tasks may include small wall repairs, painting prep, and cleaning.
11:00 AM – 12:00 PM
Kids Against Hunger is a student organization at CWRU whose mission is to significantly reduce the number of hungry children in the USA and throughout the world. KAH works with local partners in Cleveland to pack and distribute highly nutritious, vitamin-fortified soy-rice casserole.Help with KAH's next big food packing event during Spring into Cleveland with CCEL! Set-up volunteers will help unload the meals from the truck, set-up tables, and help get the room ready for the packaging event. Some heavy lifting may be required. Volunteers on the assembly line will help with a variety of tasks associated with packaging the meals. Registered volunteers should meet in the Fribley Commons Multipurpose Room at 11am.

To help the event run smoothly, volunteers will assist visitors and shoppers by greeting and providing directions, and helping to keep purchased plants safely stored for shoppers during their visit. The event is indoors and masks are required at all times.

The mission of the Cleveland Kids' Book Bank is to foster literacy and a love of reading by providing free books to children in need. Volunteers are needed to sort and pack the books by reading level so that partner sites can distribute them accordingly.

CWRU's Project Sunshine student chapter is a non-denominational, not-for-profit organization that provides numerous free programs and services to children with cancer, AIDS, and other life-threatening illnesses. Volunteers will create cards and blankets that will be sent to children currently staying in the hospital. This project takes place on-campus.
1:00 PM – 4:00 PM

Assist at a local food pantry coordinated by the Cleveland Food Bank. Help clients with shopping and selecting items, loading vehicles, organizing product and general upkeep of the pantry.

Do you like plants? Take a break from classes & become one with the plants! Join CCEL on Sunday, March 20th from 1-3pm for a trip to the Rockefeller Greenhouse! There will be air. Buy a plant. See some cacti.
