Dear First_Name,

CWRU Office of Multicultural Affairs

Take the Indigenous 21-Day Challenge

The Massachusetts Center for Native American Awareness

When we talk about racial justice, too often the focus is on Black and white experiences. But there’s another powerful story—one of Indigenous people across North and South America, whose histories, cultures, and perspectives offer invaluable insight into the impacts of colonization and the resilience of Indigenous communities today. From the moment European settlers arrived, Indigenous people faced a fierce campaign to take their lands, erase their histories, and disrupt their ways of life.

As you engage in this challenge, you’ll see that colonization didn’t just impact land—it altered entire ecosystems, cultures, and generations of human, plant, and animal life. Much of what we know now about Indigenous history has only recently been reclaimed, with new resources, voices, and perspectives long silenced by white supremacy emerging daily.

This learning journey is a work in progress, full of stories, truths, and experiences that reflect the diversity of over 500 Indigenous Nations in the US and 600 in Canada. Each has its own history, and together, they deepen our understanding of justice, resilience, and respect.

We invite you to explore with an open heart and mind, honoring the voices of those who came before and those who are still here. By engaging in this challenge you are joining in the effort to change the narrative about who Indigenous North Americans are and always have been, and sustain meaningful solidarity across communities.

Pizza BOGO

OMA’s Flavorite’s of the Week

by Steve Furlow

Want a 4, 8, or 10 slice for an amazing price? Pizza Bogo is a pork-free palace of cheese, sauce, and dough that's assembled just right! This pizzeria is only 10 minutes away by car located in Cleveland Heights, and they specialize in delicious foods for the low-low because they are famous for the BOGO! (Buy One Get One Free Unlimited Toppings) That's right Tuesdays and Wednesdays for just $10/pie, you and your friends can get toppings piled high. Unique specialty pizzas that you'll surely want to try, with tasty salads, wings, and cookies, OH MY! So, the next time you're in the mood for the Ninja Turtles favorite food, think Pizza Bogo for that local flavor, and that's where this advice concludes.

That is this week’s Flavorite, so savor it, and be sure to DM OMA on IG if there is a food nearby that I should try. I plan to chew and review it, because I cannot wait to share all the treats that I come across while eating my way through these one of kind Cleveland Streets!

Thank You to UPB Co-Pro!

A message from OMA Coordinator Júlia:

I’m a part of the Brazilian Undergraduate Cultural Association (Brazuca) and for our flagship event, Festa Junina, this semester we recruited the help of the UPB Co-Programming board.

Their co-sponsorship helped us plan, market, execute, and even finance our event, allowing us to bring a popular Brazilian festival to campus for the first time. I wanted to send a special thank you to the team, who were attentive to our vision for the event and dedicated so much effort to bringing the plan to life. UPB Co-Pro offers amazing support for smaller clubs such as cultural orgs. If your organization is interested in partnering them for an event, their application for Spring collaborations just opened!

Schubert Center for Child Studies - Research Fellows Program

The Schubert Center for Child Studies is thrilled to offer undergraduate students an exciting opportunity to gain research experience and support through our paid Research Fellowship Program again this year. Students need to be sophomores, juniors, and seniors who identify with historically marginalized identities, including those underrepresented in the behavioral and social sciences and in good academic standing.

Eligible students will have the chance to collaborate with our Schubert Associates on impactful child and adolescent-focused research in Spring 2025. They can find additional details about identity categories and the application process on our website.

12 exceptional student leaders will be selected for a transformative 8-week summer internship program in Dublin, Ireland, during which they will expand their understanding of Irish history and culture while gaining practical work experience.

The program pays tribute to Frederick Douglass’ transformative experience visiting Ireland more than 175 years ago, when Douglass was embraced by the Irish people and met the famous Irish reformer, Daniel O’Connell.
