Mandel Minute February 6, 2023
Hello Mandel Community! It's the first full week of Black History Month and there are events and opportunities both on and off campus to take advantage of, which can be found on Campus Groups! Our first Mandel Council Meeting of the semester will be announced soon, so please keep an eye out. We are still taking applications for Council elections, information on that is listed below. We look forward to receiving your applications and working with our incoming members. The time has come: applications for Mandel Council positions are now open!

The Mandel Council for Student Leadership is a group of diverse students, elected by and for the student body. The mission is to promote and preserve the educational, professional and social interests of the students of the Jack, Joseph, and Morton Mandel School of Applied Social Sciences. 

There are many different roles that you can fulfill as a member of Mandel Council; if you will be attending the Mandel School during the 2023-2024 calendar year, you are more than welcome to run for a position. Take a look at these slides to view the position descriptions, current officers, and feel free to reach out with any questions! 

As many of us approach graduation and transition out of our positions, we hope that you will consider taking on a leadership role here at the Mandel School.

We will accept submissions until Tuesday, February 14th at 11:59pm. Voting will begin shortly thereafter, and we will communicate those details at that time. 
 

We're highlighting out MSW students' field education practicums, the valuable learning opportunities they're experiencing and the impactful work they're doing in the community to give other students the opportunity to learn more about our community partner organizations and the valuable learning that happens in field education. Do you know a student having a great learning experience in field education? Complete the Field Education Spotlight form. As a first step, the only information needed is the student's name and program format - an email will then be sent to the selected student with more detailed information and next steps.

Describe Your Field Education Experience: 
Think Tank, Inc. offers training and coaching for organizations serving families and communities impacted by poverty, focusing on producing research publications and policy work, but they also host conferences and seminars and work closely with government and advocacy leaders to help advance their research and causes. I help with the focus groups, Cost of Poverty Experience simulations, and data reports and summary presentations once all the information is gathered. 

Fran E.'s Pantry, Donation Bin 

From: February 6th - 17th
Location: Noble Commons, Outside the Harris Library

Mandel Council is collaborating with Signature Health to provide donations for Fran E.'s Pantry. Over the next two weeks, we encourage students, faculty, and staff to donate nonperishable food, hygiene products, POC hair care products, baby items, elderly adult items, and winter necessities.
