James Silay (he/him/his)

Director

I came to CWRU as a first generation college student hoping to graduate with a degree in biomedical engineering, though I ultimately graduated with a degree in sociology. During my time at CWRU I was involved in a lot of different clubs and organizations including Beta Theta Pi Fraternity, Relay For Life, the Residence Hall Association, Order of Omega, Student Turning Point Society, and various others. In addition to these extracurricular activities, I worked on campus as a student intern with Student Activities and Leadership, an orientation leader and executive board member with First-Year Experience and Family Programs, and a resident assistant with Residence Life.

After graduation I attended the University of South Carolina, where I received my M.Ed. in Higher Education and Student Affairs in 2016. Before returning to CWRU I worked at the University of Virginia as the Program Coordinator for Student Engagement and then an Assistant Director of Fraternity, Sorority and Cooperative Life at Purdue University.

In my free time I enjoy running, cooking, hanging out with friends, and trying different restaurants and breweries. As a Pittsburgh native, you will find me watching and supporting the Steelers, Penguins, and Pirates!!

Jason Steckel (he/him/they)

Associate Director

I have served youth throughout my career in a variety of roles, including youth and family ministry, foster youth advocacy, case management, and substance use prevention education. I have also worked in management, customer service, and sales. I graduated from CWRU with a BS in Management and went on to earn a BTh in Bible and Ministry from Harding University and an MRE in Missional Leadership from Rochester University (MI).

While an undergraduate at CWRU, I joined Beta Theta Pi and served as Chapter President, Vice President, and Philanthropy Chairman. Outside of the fraternity, I served as Vice President of Finance for the Undergraduate Student Government. In the last several years, I have been an advisor for the CWRU Beta chapter and volunteered as a facilitator for Greek Academy. Much of my professional and volunteer time has been invested in mentoring, coaching, and educating young people.

I live on the west side of Cleveland with my partner Martha and her son, Sam. My son Matthew is studying computer science at Bowling Green State University. When not at work, I enjoy riding roller coasters, exploring the Metroparks, listening to live music, dancing, meditating, listening to podcasts and audiobooks, reading, and bicycle riding. I am an Enneagram Seven, ENFP, and my CliftonStrengths are Woo, Input, Communication, Positivity, and Strategic.

Sara Jurkiewicz (she/her/ella)

Manager for Greek Leadership

I work closely with the Council, the Panhellenic Recruitment Process, and the general leadership education and programming for the office. I graduated from Bowling Green State University with a M.A in College Student Personnel and with Bachelors in Physics and Spanish. I am a member of Sigma Kappa and Order of Omega and held various positions in both organizations.

In grad school, I worked in Fraternity & Sorority Life, with practicums in International Programs & Partnerships and in the Marvin Center for Student Leadership and Civic Engagement. Outside of work, I volunteer with my sorority on the national level and I enjoy crochet, reading, cooking, and spending time with my partner at home or exploring the Summit Metro Parks.

Tiffany Hall (she/her/hers)

Coordinator

In my role in the Greek Life Office, I work with our staff and student leaders to make sure business operations and finances run smoothly; and with campus and community partners on everything ranging from IT, catering, service agreements to general data for headquarters and executive offices. I assist in telling the story of the CWRU Greek experience through my work compiling data for the Greek Life Annual Report and I am the voice on the other end of the main Greek Life phone line. I am happy to be a part of how Greek Life impacts and enriches our students' lives!

As a native Clevelander who went to high school less than a mile from campus, I love everything this area has to offer - from the arts, live music and museums to the amazing food. In my free time I like to take pictures, travel, bowl, eat at my favorite local restaurants, and go to the movies.
